Day 132 - Part II

Why a 7 year old should not have a cell phone....

The kids were playing in the backyard while I finished dinner. Luke comes running in the backdoor.

Luke: Mom! My cell phone fell down the white thing the rain goes in.
Me: The what?
Luke: The white thing the rain goes in.
Me: Your cell phone fell down it?
Luke: Yes. Mom, just come outside. You have to get it.
Me: *completely confused* Show me what you are talking about.

Luke walks out onto the deck and points to the roof.

Me: Your cell phone "fell down" into the gutter?
Luke: Yes.
Me: Ummm? What was your cell phone doing on the roof?
Luke: I was trying to throw it to Gracen!
*Gracen is not anywhere near the roof.*
Me: Well, that is what you get for throwing your cell phone on the roof.
Luke: Please Mom get it for me.
Me: No way, Jose.
Luke: I can get on the roof and get it. We have a ladder.
Me: I don't think so.
Luke: Daddy would get it for me.
Me: Nice try, but Daddy would not and could not get up there.

Yes, the cell phone was a store model and never actually worked. But knowing Luke, even if it had been a working cell phone, it would still be sitting high up in our gutter... forever.

The boy is so extremely smart. He can think of every come back or excuse to get you to agree to something. But think twice about the results of his actions... wiping his bbq sauce covered hands on his shirt, leaving his food where the dog can easily get it, stuffing a wad of money in his pocket and playing with it while walking around the toy store... nope, doesn't even cross his mind.
